230W Kit

What Sets this Apart from Other Smok Devices

Not much. As of today Smok has released 17 vape devices, and I like to think they're on a mission to use these devices as a test run, seeing which style is most preferred. In a way the Rigel style seems to steer clear of any mod they've built before in terms of overall look. On the other hand, it bears a striking resemblance to the Vaporesso Gen mod, mixed with a little RPM160.

Overall Look

The device looks like what you would expect a $40 kit to look like. The front panel surrounding the firing buttons and screen is a glossy plastic, with two "carbon fiber" accent panels on each side. The rest of the mod is covered in a rubber coated plastic that feels surprisingly comfortable and prevents the mod from slipping out of your hands. The Rigel is reminiscent of Vaporesso's Gen mod which we all know was an absolutely wonderful mod. The display is very simple and easy to read, so it's a perfect mod for beginners or people who don't like fiddling with settings. The battery life is displayed for both at the top in percentage which is a huge bonus for me. Then you have your watts in big white numbers, volts, ohms, puff counter, and puff time below. The only thing you can change is the color scheme for which the Rigel gives you six different options to choose from.

Performance

The Smok Rigel goes all the way up to 230W, which is cool, but for most people it's entirely irrelevant. You'd be hard-pressed to find a coil made by Smok or any other brand that makes a coil that can be used at over 150W. The firing button is large enough that it's easy to make out so you're not having to look, giving a natural vaping feel. It has a bit of a wiggle to it, which adds another tick to the "cheap feel" side. It does have a type-c charging port though it is almost never recommended to charge your batteries inside the mod. We recommend getting an external battery charger to avoid the hardware inside your mod from being burned out due to overcharging.

The TFV9 Tank

A vape mod is only as good as the tank you pair it with, and lucky Smok did a great job with the TFV9. Smok looks to be going back to their roots with the overall look as it's highly similar to the TFV8 Baby Beast tank release a couple years ago. With the TFV line-up Smok has continually added to, this would fall in between the TFV12 Baby Prince and TFV8 Baby V2 in terms of sheer performance. The 'child-proof' locking mechanism is a great addition. The fill port is accessed by lifting the metal ring closest to the drip-tip then swinging the top half out. The 6.5mL capacity is fantastic and cuts the amount of times you'll need to refill almost in half. The major downside with this coil is you'll only have one option to choose from: the V9 Meshed 0.15ohm coil. Though this coil performed quite well for me, it isn't my favorite and limits my choices. There are too many tanks from amazing brands (including Smok) that sells coils with plenty of different coil options to choose from.

Choose a star from the starry dream sky to light up infinite possibilities.

FINAL VERDICT

Overall i'd say the Smok Rigel kit is the perfect setup for any beginner, or person who hates complicating their vaping experience. This kit is very simple and straightforward to any user and only gives the user what they'll need. Simple wattage changing, one decent coil to find when searching online or at a vape shop, and lightweight to carry around wherever you need. Pick it up today with 10% off using coupon code SPARKLE
