Uwell Caliburn Gone For Good?

The FDA has Sent Warning Letters to Vape Manufacturers & Retailers

On Monday April 27th, the FDA reported they will be sending out letters to vape retailers and manufacturers stating certain products must be removed from the market. Among the list of products are niche items like the vaping hoodie, but one of the products is the fan favorite UWell Caliburn.

Written in the warning letter issued to Shenzhen Uwell Technology Co., Ltd., it is stated the Caliburn pod system and three other products are violating the rules of the 2009 Tobacco Control Act as well as the Deeming Rule of 2016.

These include the requirement of any products of which are introduced following August 8th, 2016 are required to receive approval from the FDA to be marketed. Any and all products launched after the stated date are to be hit with the same enforcement.

Why the Caliburn is Getting the Ban Hammer

Uwell introduced the Caliburn pod system in the second half of 2018, and in a short span of time became the crowd favorite pod system in the vaping community. The flavor, juice capacity, and quick charge time was uncontested at the time. Even with the small bout of quality-control issues it retained the top spot as the best vape of 2018 and 2019.

Go anywhere on Youtube and search the Caliburn pod system and you would be hard-pressed to find any vape reviewer stating this pod system is not the best on the market. One of the biggest appeals of this device is the simplicity and compact size of it. Not flashy but and all the internal workings someone would want in a pod system.

Uwell Not the Only Brand Being Targeted

Products which have been cited on April 27th included e-liquid with labels inspired by cartoons or existing candy companies. Voopoo's fidget spinner pod system, Wizman's Puff Boy (a mod made to look like a handheld video game), and Uwells Amulet (a wristwatch pod system) have also been on the list from the FDA's ban.

At least 6 different vape manufacturers and retailers have been cited, and are required to reply to the FDA within 3 weeks of receiving the letter. A total of 89 voilations were listed on the FDA's website, but unsurprisingly only about three of these are supposedly vape shops. Majority of the violations are assumed to be gas stations, liquor stores, and convenience/tobacco stores. This means the people within the vaping community care about each other's well being and are doing their part to help our future.
