Vape Battery Safety Guide
Battery safety should be practiced by every vape user and we've provided a short guide to keep you vaping with full confidence.
What All Vapers Should Know About Rechargeable Batteries
AUTHOR JASON B. / PUBLISHED: AUG-13-2020
This guide will walk you through what you should be aware of when handling and using batteries in your vape products to ensure you're safe while enjoying your nicotine.
The batteries you'll use in your mod or pod system are almost exactly like the battery in your cell phone or laptop. Vape batteries have been available in a wide variety of sizes and rating, but the most common batteries nowadays come in four different options: 18650 (most common), 20700, 21700, and internal battery. If you're new to vaping, you might think you could use a regular AA battery you'd find at your grocery store but unfortunately this isn't the case.
As technology and general knowledge has increased drastically in the past few years, someone who is not familiar with vaping doesn't need to know as much as we used to in order to vape safely. There are a few key things we should all be aware of to keep the lowest possibility of an accident:
1.) Make Sure Battery Wraps DO NOT have Tears
2.) Store Batteries in a Case
3.) DEDICATED CHARGERS
4.) Be Wary of Counterfeits
5.) Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

Preserving The Batteries Condition
Oftentimes you'll see a vape battery with a nice design wrap on it, though it might be easy on the eyes it serves a vital purpose. Battery wraps protect them from coming into contact with other metals leading to venting and possible explosion. If you notice you have a rip or tear on the wrap of your battery, replace the wrap as soon as possible. We advise taking the battery to a vape shop year your location and have them rewrap them for you, as they should have proper training on how to handle a re-wrap correctly.
Battery wrap tears and issues of the sort can easily be avoided, buy picking up a simple battery case. In most cases if you buy a 2-pack of batteries you'll get with it a transparent plastic case to hold your batteries in safely. This is important not only for the longevity of the battery's life, but for your own safety. When a battery comes into contact with another metal, this increases the possibility of venting. Venting is the phenomenon of a battery emitting gas due to impact. The pressure inside a battery will get too high and the vent will open releasing a potentially dangerous gas.
This might sound scary but don't be too worried, battery explosions rarely happen and if you follow these two points you'll be able to vape care-free.
Lithium-ion batteries have a failure rate that is less than one in a million. The failure rate of a quality Li-ion cell is better than 1 in 10 million.
Use a Dedicated Charger
Most modern vape systems can charge the battery right in the mod or pod system, but if it uses an external battery it is always a preferable option to utilize an external battery charger. External chargers have a dedicated chipset to ensure the battery can get the correct amount of power to it without increasing the temperature or putting too much power to it.
Battery chargers like the ones we have listed start at single-bay and go all the way up to 8-bay chargers, so you'll never have to worry about running out of power for your devices. If you want to get into the advanced levels you can even buy a battery charger displaying overall battery health and some nifty features.
If you hear the term 'married batteries', it refers to 2 identical batteries that are used and charged at the same time which will lead to a longer overall battery life due to optimal charging and drainage.
Avoid Fakes & Recycle
With the small but present dangers lithium ion batteries, fake batteries is just another factor that can increase the probability of a battery issue. We highly advise anyone who is considering purchasing a vape battery to buy only from authorized retailers and NEVER on the black market. The vape industry has already received a bad rap from the black market pushing illegal THC cartridges mixed with vitamin-e acetate which ended up fatal for dozens of people.
Avoid any trouble and harm for your and those around you. Purchase directly from the manufacturer if possible, or if you trust us (we're autorized retailers) we provide 100% authentic Hohm Tech batteries.
When the time comes for you to replace your worn out batteries, to keep our planet safe and healthy you should always recycle them. Lithium-ion cells can short-circuit when thrown in a trash can or put into a trash compacter and this poses a serious safety risk for anyone near them. Next time you're at your local shopping center keep a look out for battery disposal boxes, they're free and convenient.
